ACRYLIC ON WOOD PANEL - 5" X 7" - (c)BRUCEDOCKER,2010
Sometimes it seems incongruous that there are what amount to groves of trees along the sidewalks in some cities and towns. A few weeks ago I drove through the thriving downtown of Lawrence, KS and you can hardly see the businesses through the trees. It's remarkable to see the same thing in Miami.

I've always liked the old car that Robert Mitchum drove in Thunder Road. I don't know what year the car was made,'49-'51? It was a hotrod tank filled with moonshine.

Several years ago this bridge near my home was replaced with a new, modern and presumably safer bridge just a few hundred yards away. Of course, the old bridge has more character and was abandoned for practical reasons, but I wonder how long it will be there. Will it eventually be torn down? Why was it just left there?
After admiring the car paintings of Rob Ijbema, I was encouraged by him to do my own Formula 1 painting. This is the first that I have tried and it was great fun. Of course our styles are vastly different, he really conveys the action of the sport. I've not done car pictures since I was a teen, when the subjects tended to be George Barris custom cars and Ed Roth cartoon cars.

___________________________________________________ NIGHT DRIVE - DRAWING I had originally planned for this drawing to be for a woodcut print series, but haven't done so yet. However, even as a painting I wanted to keep as much shadow as possible. So there is very little detail on the bridge and ground. #2 pencil on acid free paper - 5" x 7" - (C)BruceDocker,2010 $40.00
This painting from yesterdays drawing has a few changes that I wanted, to accommodate color layout. And of course I had to un-straighten the buildings.because that's the way I like it. This is beautiful downtown Chicago.

I've been drawing a lot more recently. I used to draw more often, but once I started painting more frequently I didn't seem to find the time. For my paintings I usually draw directly on the board that I am using, just enough to set the composition, then the drawing gets painted over. For an up coming group of paintings I will be painting from separate drawings that I then transfer over to the board. I will be sharing these drawings with you and making them available for sale also. I will post the painting of this drawing next.
