The third and final in my flag series. These were a group of different kinds of flags, but I made each group similar in color to emphasize the shapes and shadows.

When you drive across bridges they are barely noticeable. But from beneath, with no other man made reference, they are enormous and overwhelming.

PASSING VIEW FROM MY CANOE

Acrylic on plywood - 5x7" - (C)BruceDocker,2008
$100.00

I was in a nearby national forest, where the access road passes under the highway. I was reminded of the many float trips I've taken here and in Kansas. The only signs of civilization that you see from that vantage point are the bottoms of bridges and the occasional dumped car at the rivers edge. With only the quiet hiss of passing cars I am reminded of the ruins of some civilization.

HAPPY HOME

I was going to work on this and change it because it looked so ridiculously like a face. In the end I decided I liked everything else about it and the face was just one of those oddities that pops up in my work from time to time.

TSUNAMI BEAN

Acrylic on plywood - 5x7" - (C)BruceDocker,2008
$100.00

This is of course 'Cloud Gate' in Chicago's Millineum Park. It is this weeks project/challenge on the Different Strokes site. I like how the top of the 'bean' looks like a cresting wave and I'm happy with the way it came out. Though it was outside of my comfort zone, I'm glad I painted it.
